We network with several farms for the mission of growing a sustainable future by addressing food insecurity, restoring ecosystems, and empowering communities through permaculture education.
The Challenge /
Growing Health Naturally
South Florida Permaculture Resource Center (SFPRC): This division focuses on the connection between environmental sustainability and health. SFPRC runs a permaculture education program to teach people how to grow nutritious food and live in harmony with nature. The center educates youth and the community on organic farming, conservation, and self-sufficiency skills.
By learning to cultivate natural, whole foods and preserve the environment, participants address fundamental needs for a healthier life. This program embodies 47MR’s belief that a self-sustaining lifestyle and healthy diet are key to preventive healthcare. SFPRC often hosts farm visits, workshops, and volunteer opportunities to engage the community in hands-on learning about growing healthy food.
47MR believes reconnecting with wholesome food and sustainable practices (via permaculture farming, for example) is essential to long-term health. The nonprofit strives to teach that “we are what we eat and drink,” encouraging healthier food choices as medicine.
