Chain medical centers offer no nutritional training to staff

Today was an interesting day. I spent the day visiting several chains of medical centers which have cropped up due to the Affordable Care Act law, I found out some interesting things. The first is that these chain medical centers are not owned by the physicians. They are owned by corporate businessman and the medical staff is on payroll. The care is provided by business philosophy that is more concern about profit then the actual care provided to the patient. Therefore, this is perhaps why the corporate mentality of the “9 to 5 job” exists, and no medical care is available after 5PM.

What was more shocking was the staff indifference to eating healthy food. With all the information on wellness and eating properly available to medical professionals, in an interview with the staff workers, I found it seems no training or emphasis is placed on eating healthy in these chains. Most of the staff eat fast food and are quite content with their choice and pattern of eating junk food.

Therefore, the staff of these medical centers operate as a business, not interested at all in promoting or educating their patients on nutritional food. How could health professionals themselves not be concerned with what they eat? Are these centers just a high throughput center for generating insurance claims for the insurance industry, so people can be passing through the “fee for service” system for the generation of corporate profit?

Do you think the medical staff should be trained on nutrition and eating healthy at your doctor’s office?

Do you think the physicians should own the medical center you visit?
